Last February 22, I was on board his vessel going to Cebu for the 1st National Peace Jamboree of the Boy Scouts of the Philippines. Accidentally, I left my G-Shock 8100 watch, a birthday gift from my Papa, in the cabin where he was assigned. For like a week, I have been rummaging through my things and checking every nook and cranny of the campsite hoping that I might have misplaced it from just within the vicinity not a bit suspecting that I left it at the vessel. Eventually, my efforts were in vain and finally gave up on it.
I don’t know what came over Mama but instead of taking the CEB flight back to Iloilo on March 1, she booked us a ticket on February 28 via Cokaliong’s M/V Filipinas Cebu. Mr. Amolar ushered us in the same cabin where we stayed the last time and he also greeted us with the best news I ever heard during my trip – he has my watch and kept it in his locker for safekeeping until our return. According to him, he heard Mama say something about us seeing him again for our trip back from the jamboree. In return, Mama offered him a small amount and some goodies for his two kids but he refused to accept.
You see, anybody can be a hero through one’s good deeds and example just like Mr. Marlon Amolar. If you happen to catch a trip on his vessel, be assured that you are in good hands. MANONG MARLON: I SALUTE YOUR HONESTY. Until we meet again. God bless.
